Alexa, that is what actually happens to me from time to time in my office. I try to keep the books lined up with the front edge of the shelves, but there's something unstable about the supports and I will start to lift a book out, the shelf will tilt a little, and there I am making a dam with my elbows and wrists to stop this cascade of books. Sometimes it sets off the shelf below and I brace that with a knee. My interpretation of your dream is that it is warning you to avoid unstable book shelves.

On the other hand--maybe it is predicting the stock market!

You know, that is so similar to a recurring dream I have that I'm even going to drop the accent.
Zolar says books in a library means an unexpected experience. But would you trust a man named Zolar with an important thing like this? Of course not.
My dream like that is about trying to collect things---like picking up those damn frogs who multiply too fast. Usually it's dead kittens, though. And once, it was mice. And somewhere I did read that trying to collect things and feeling out of control was about feeling overwhelmed in your real life. Very similar to the finger in a dike image!
Now I must ask if you've ever dreamed of a dark man standing in the bedroom who is going to kill you. This is another recurring dream of mine, known to the family as "Mom's Screaming Dream". Dan hates this dream because I start screaming at the top of my lungs and he always leaps out of bed thinking someone's broken in. Scares the hell out of him.
However, I've been reading in Women Who Run With Wolves that this is actually an archetypal figure whom most women do dream about and who represents certain crises or critical points in their lives. Anyone?

I think it means you read too slowly.

No no no, absurdly braindead Alexa!!

The "very old volume" represents Hong Kong, an ancient partner of Western economies. The second is Japan, then Singapore, and so on. You were using both arms and legs in an attempt to emulate statues of Shiva, who had enough of both to keep unruly GDPs in line. The malign force shoving the books off the shelf is George Soros.

The fact that the dream was set in a library suggests that you have been reading a great deal about the Asian crisis.

Tonight you will dream of Thailand, Malaysia, and, once again, South Korea.
