Open Interest is important because it shows the net gain to MM's at expiration if they can hold contracts at the strike. As I wrote in a previous post, the figures given for open interest in both calls and puts are very small relative to either the float or the daily volume. We cannot blame market makers for this. If there was any institutional volume, they would be swamped. There is none, so they are not. We can expect more volume, good or bad, as soon as KLA Tencor and Cymer report on the 20th,
