This is the same choice faced by Pavel Durov who created, BKonakte, the Facebook of Russia, and Telegram the outlaw of Russia. Durov chose to sell his stock ownership in BKontakte to Putin's state-security crony's and remain both an entrepreneur businessman and alive. It's not surprising Jack Ma made a similar choice. vk.com is now an arm of Putin's government just as Alibaba is now a Xi subsidiary.
