Richard, there should NEVER be a charge for using the "analog" portion of the ISDN spectrum. If your phone company charges for this, it is an error worth disputing for a definite refund.

When you connect an ISDN MODEM to a line you get 2 digital channels and you get two analog ports -- each of which provides super-POTS. When you use either super-POTS channel, you lose half your potential digital bandwidth. But there's no rule that says that you ever have to use any of the digiital bandwidth. The two 56-64KB DIGITAL halves are called "B" channels and the two analog channels .. well. I suppose they are the "A" channels.

Using the "second B channel" is a chargeable offense .. assuming that you cranked up the first B-channel in the first place (both "B" channels are digital adn subject to per-minute charges)
.
The safest way to use an ISDN MODEM is to disconnect its cable from your PC. In that way you still get 2 "free" analog channels and can be certain that you haven't placed a single "digital" call.

Richard, 200 hours per month divided by 23 weekdays per month is 8.7 hours per day. Don't you ever sleep?

>>BellSouth counts the time used on pots lines plugged into the back of your TA as time spent vs. its allotment of 200 hours per month. <<
