Marijuana: Short interest surging in pot plays It’s been hard to ignore the stratospheric moves that some cannabis producers have enjoyed over the past several months on Canada’s main stock markets. But as the saying goes – what comes up will come down. That’s what a growing number of investors are betting on as short interest in cannabis stocks rose to 52 per cent in the third quarter, Bloomberg’s Kristine Owram reports. Total short interest in the marijuana space hit US$3.1 billion on Sept. 27, up from just over US$2 billion at the end of June, according to data from S3 Partners, leading some institutional investors to take a pause in the fast-moving cannabis space.
