I would just like to chime in to state my opinion about 3dfx from a "Peter Lynch" sort of view.

Some of the tech people where I work started were going on and on about how great the 3dfx chips were (specifically the Monster 3d). Since my Intel Pentium 90 really couldn't play the latest games anymore - I tried a Monster 3d card. Basically, I will now be able to hold off on an Intel upgrade for about 1-2 years! When I e-mailed my friend in CA that works for Sony Playstation to tell him to buy one - he already owned one.

I bought some TDFX today at 25 3/4 because of the following reasons:

Geeks/techs have more money now than ever - and they hear about new products via word of mouth vs. watching coke ads.

The asian crisis will probably help tdfx get their chips built cheaper in Korea (?)

Their fabs will become more efficient

I'm also hoping there is a pre-earning run up based on speculation from company press releases

In the long run however, I don't think TDFX has much of a chance. Open GL will probably become the standard, and it won't make much of a difference where you buy your 3d video card (ala Hayse standard of modems in the beginning of modem technology)

In the short run - jump on the train for a speculative ride.
