Steve:

The deltoid is routinely detached from the lateral end of clavicle to resect the clavicle, and also detached from a small part of the front of the acromion to do the acromioplasty. It is also split up and down for about 1.5-2cm. to gain exposure to the rotator cuff so that we may repair the tear. The tear is usually circular in outline and is stitched together and then attached to the bone with Mitek bone anchors. Upon conclusion of the procedure the deltoid is reattached to the acromion using sutures passed through the bone.

The deltoid work should not hold up the rehab. Passive exercises done by the CPM are safe as long as you keep the arm relaxed while the machine is moving it. It is actually much better than keeping the arm in the sling.

God bless.
Nathan.
