What saddens me is the tribalism of GOP in using the emotional reactions of rape victims as evidence that Dems are using Ford to “get” Kavanaugh. Let’s take her allegations out of the equation for a moment. 1/ Melissa Jo Peltier?Verified account @MelissaJPeltier There’s a good reason why McConnell - the savviest & sneakiest power player alive today - warned Trump/GOP NOT to nominate Kav. Even though he was confident they could ram him through. 2/ Mitch - and plenty of other GOP - not only knew there were sexual misconduct allegations floating around out there, LONG BEFORE the Dems did. He also knew that Kav had been a nightmare for Bush to push through to Appeals Court in 2006: 3/ Melissa Jo Peltier?Verified account @MelissaJPeltier There’s also a reason they held back 93% of Kav’s papers & records...something that has never been done before. Those records WILL be FOIAed someday & Mitch knows that. He knows Kav will be exposed & his perjury to Senate Committee will be exposed. 5/ Melissa Jo Peltier?Verified account @MelissaJPeltier Mitch - and MANY others - also know of Kav’s drinking & gambling issues. Trust me on this - unaknowledged - and untreated- addiction issues don’t just get better once you’ve got your “Dream Job”-for life. 6/ On the contrary. Addictions are ALWAYS progressive. They get worse. If you can’t get fired, why bother to change. Not saying he’s going to show up drunk to deliberations, but there are a myriad other ways they can impair judgement - & open the addicted to major compromise. 7/ Kav already was mysteriously bailed out of financial straits twice (that we know of.) 2004-5 & 2017-18. Do the math. Republicans are supposed to be good with money, but if my huz & I lived above our means like him & had no backup (AT 53!)we’d be rightly called irresponsible . 8/ If Kav requires a mystery donor many more times, he runs the risk of exposing a shady money trail. Again, McConnell is strategic & sees these grave risks. Trump & GOP should have listened to him. Kavanaugh was a terrible pick. 9/ Melissa Jo Peltier?Verified account @MelissaJPeltier All this “I stand by Kavanaugh” bluster by R rank & file is self-destructive. Instead of blind tribalism, GOP needs to accept this grave mistake & let Kav go. Dems aren’t “making this a circus.” Kav’s own actions & unsuitability are the cause - either now or once on SCOTUS. 10/
