<<The S&P stock report I read and which was dated 3 Jan 98 gave Adaptec a strong buy (5 stars) and very positive statements about earnings for this year. What kind of information was used for that report?>>

It may have been management guidance. Saviers et al seemed truly surprised by the lack of normal year-end sales spike thru distribution channel.

What I don't yet understand is how a $1400 price point (down from $2000) for a typical corporate PC cuts into host adapter demand. $2000 machines normally don't have SCSI adapters to begin with, so how could lower prices hurt demand?

Maybe the direct sales model is being adopted by the smallest VARS and assemblers out there, and the channel is emptying completely. In this case the problem would be temporary. I aim to find out on the conf call.

Thoughts anybody?
