Is everybody forgetting that even a small decrease in revenue could slash earnings tremendously? I'm totally confused why an analyst would cut estimates from 1.01 to 97c. Either South Korea cancels orders which makes a huge difference in earnings, or it doesn't and the earnings estimate is still valid. I didn't read the company's announcement as being a "little bit of a problem"...

Here is some good news for Korean telecom and PWAV:
(except 69 million isn't that much)

Gov't to Provide Large Aid to Telecom Operators
January 14, 1998 (SEOUL) -- The Korean government will
provide about US$69 million to companies in the
telecommunications industry to help ease their financial
difficulties, said Kang Bong-kyun, minister of Information and
Communications.

He made the comment at a meeting with domestic
telecommunications service providers in Seoul.

In recent years the ministry has given financial assistance on an
annual basis to key telecom service providers.

The ministry said it will select 36 telecom service providers to
receive assistance within this week.

The telecom service providers that participated in the meeting said
they welcomed the government's policies to liberalize telecom fees
as well as to lower restrictions on entry into key businesses. They
said it is difficult for them to secure investment funds during the
prevailing economic crisis.

Mobile phone service providers said that the total number of
subscribers remains steady.

A ministry official said there will be no changes in fees based on
portion of sales, which are paid by telecom operators.

Hi John,
What a ride, heh? I bought again today. Loaded with PWAV anc CELL now. This is what I think:
PWAV has been a great company for more than 10 years. With last year IPO, it went from 10s to high 40s. Earnings have been great even up to last quarter. If 76% of their business is Korean and everything is working fine, heck, they will not have a problem selling it elsewhere. In fact, this is a great time to redirect sales elsewhere with very competitive prices. Korea will bounce back, when? 6 to 12 months. Maybe it will not be as good as before, but it will bounce back. By the time they do, PWAV will be more diversify and be back at 25s within 6 months to a year. IMF is channeling funds as we speak, the big three Korean companies that bought from PWAV is very well diversify also so, they will have some sort of money. Can't afford to stop investing in technology, not now anyway. Wish I have more money, I load up more and watch it grow.
