Maybe you can answer a question I've had on my mind for awhile now, since you seem to know so much about energy. Why is it that Germany is so dependent on Russian natural gas when they have all those renewable energy programs going? If I was an Eastern European country, the last country I'd want to be dependent on for my energy sources would be Russia. The high cost of energy in Germany would be worth it, if it was an investment in energy independence from unfriendly sources.

Having said that, are you sure those energy costs for Germany and the other countries are purely VARIABLE costs, not the high fixed costs that go into the initial set up? Also, do those high costs exclude VAT and other taxes and duties? Europe and Germany are notoriously high tax countries. So you have to exclude that garbage from the equation and look at pure, variable costs of energy per unit, not at any extraneous items. Otherwise, it's simply not apples to apples.
