DS--In a way, the S. Korean crisis was caused because they
borrowed in dollars and never hedged the currency risk.
They were arrogant to the extent that they thought their currency would not fall vs the dollar. What idiot's!!!
Of course the flip side is why would western bankers not demand
them to do so?
So, if your currency falls by 1/2, your obligations go up by the same amount. Oil, rice, whatever, if you don't hedge, you are screwed.
