All this talk about power, reliability, scalability and open architectures are great selling points but they obscure an equally important attribute, or lack thereof, brought about by Microsoft itself: Sun is not breathing down the necks of broadcasters, retailers, banks, and others with products and services which will materially impact their collective bottom lines in a negative manner. Sun isn't engaged in this economic land-grab which Microsoft can't resist. That is, Sun isn't getting into the broadcasting and banking business, they are focused on making those industries run more efficiently. There's something terribly wrong with a company like Microsoft making banking products and then trying to get into the banking business. That's a recipe for conflicting interests. The only thing standing between Sun and unimaginable success is the availability of Java applications, tools and components. That can't be rushed too quickly because quality software takes quality time: Upshot: unimaginable success is going to have to take a backseat to merely convincing results 'til next year. I'm wondering if a MSFT short might actually be better than a SUNW long?
