Why not just go to
mirror.eng
and download a version of Java for NT? No new machine
and it's what you're used to.
>>

....but that's exactly what I am trying to ascertain!

Let's just say, for example, that I really AM tired with NT and MS and all of that.
Could I pick up a package deal here that would get me rolling in 100% Pure Java,
lots more speed, a better working environment and so on?
<<

a "package deal"? I don't know but if you want a Sun setup that
will be Great for Java Development just get a workstation (Any
will do) which will come bundled with Solaris and Java. To do
development you COULD do it with the bundled Java but would
probably want to get JavaWorkshop 2.0 to get a nice development
environment.

PS: Wrong Url I gave you. it should have been:
javasoft.com
