Our department manager finally took pity on us Ph.D students and purchased two Zip externals for us to pass around so that we can back up our data and such. This happened a couple of months ago--at that time I was told that the department would not be supplying disks so I went out and bought a couple of my own. This morning I noticed 4 (count'em 4) ten packs of Zip disks in the supply room in the same drawer with the floppies. I asked our manager about the apparent change of heart and she shrugged, saying that a number of professors in the department had requested them. . . That's a pretty good tie ratio if you just count the two Zip drives that are being passed around the department. . .
