My calculation was based on the previous poster's implication that the portfolio's gain was made over a period of 10 years. Yes, 11.2% over the past eight years with only 50% exposure to stocks looks pretty good to me too.

However I don't agree with the other posters who say it is unfair to calculate the returns (for the other two portfolios) from the market top of 1987. One has to evaluate a portfolio on the basis of what it did during such a severe downturn.
