My number 1 rule is to only write puts on stocks that I want to own. Ninety plus percent of the time, I already have a position.

Not everyone is suited to options. That is why there are more stringent rules in opening an option account and there are levels of suitability. Sometimes personal circumstances make it inadvisable. and that applies to stock ownership as well.

One risk that doesn't get mentioned is opportunity loss. Your maximum gain is the premium. Often outright buying the stock is the best option.
