That money had been frozen for decades, and releasing it simply gave them more money with which to fund terrorist activities. There was no quid pro quo for releasing those funds previously frozen initially as far back as Jimmy Carter. It was what amounts to an idiotic gift. It is not a lie. That money was given to Iran and should not have been so long as they were behaving in a belligerent manner.
