Thanks for the postitive feedback and sorry for the flood of words. Prolixity is a disease, and I suffer from a near-debilitating case. :-)

Maintainability and support costs are some of the primary considerations for us when selecting hardware, right on par with the question of efficacy and initial affordability. This was one of the reasons that we didn't start using PC extensively until the last couple of years... four years ago we only had about two dozen PCs for 350 users, and this was in large part because they are so difficult to support. NT and modern hardware designs have made a tremendous difference there, but even then the PCs soak up more than there fair share of support costs. It is only because of the dramatic decline in the comparative efficacy and affordability of X terminals that we finally bit the bullet...
