Just offering this FWIW. I've lost a little over 15 lbs since spring. Same idea that you expressed.... cut back, or minimize carbs and sugar. I also found a diminished appetite helped a lot. Point I wanted to share is that I also decided (no consultation with the doc) that I might be okay with dropping my BP med.

In just a few days I discovered my weight (and BP) was going up rapidly and while on the scales I saw my feet had swollen to look like a pair of footballs. Water retention completely. Back on the BP med (a diuretic) and all returned to "normal". I won't try that experiment again. Check your weight and BP daily while off the med.
