Cool. It's a long book but very rewarding. My two other favorite big picture historians with multiple books on the self are Thomas Sowell, Jacques Barzun and David Hacker Fisher. Honorable mention to Fernand Braudel, Peter Heather, Desmond Steward, etc. Louis Tainter is as much a sociologist as he is an historian. His book, The Collapse Of Complex Societies could be called an executive summary of my 8 yr reading rampage on the topic.

Nothing special about me. Just able to read more than the average person from being housebound, for extended periods, because of life long poor health. Was lucky the personal computer came along allowing me to earn a good living from home as a full time professional stock trader til I retired in 2012.

All the best to you and your family,

Iso
