I sold 50% of TRN last week and still have GBX on my value Buy watch list. I also like the railroad sector but no value Buys there. UNP below $100.00/share is around my Buy target SMA(200) at $110.00 so maybe a stiff correction may/could provide me w/ a small Buy.

What is interesting a Carl Ichan was one of the reasons I started looking at RAIL. He got a 5 bagger w/ this merger agreement. Very difficult w/ the size he Buys. FWIW, he is also deep into NWL, so I continue to hold that as a value bargain. So far a value trap based on my recent Buy points.

TRN is the only Railcar manufacturer I own. I have GBX on my watchlist and it may be getting close to value territory. GBX selling at 0.7x BV; 11 PE but industry at cyclical low. 2019 EPS estimate at $3.62/share. GN value for GBX is $59.00/share or 63% undervalued

Trinity Industries to build railcar maintenance facility
May 20, 2019 11:09 AM ET

Trinity Industries ( TRN -1%) says wholly-owned subsidiary TrinityRail Maintenance Services has agreed to purchase 230 acres in Shell Rock, Iowa for the construction of a new railcar maintenance services facility.

Upon completion, the new facility is expected to provide a full range of railcar services, including repairs and maintenance, coatings, cleaning, inspections, and testing. The site's co-location with the Iowa Northern Railroad and optimal access to the Class-1 railroad network, including strategic access to the upper Midwest, were significant factors in Trinity's decision to build a new railcar maintenance facility in Shell Rock.

Trinity sees the new facility enhancing customer service levels by increasing captive maintenance solutions

Railcar companies

Noticed TRN w/ recent sell off in the sector is 27% undervalued according to it's GN fair falue price of $26.25/share. Had GBX on the watchlist too but failed to pull the trigger at/near $21.00/share.

I see I sold 50% of my TRN 10/2018 at $32.00/share. So I now have GTC order to Buy back those shares at/below $19.00/share.

Not much exposure in this sector so for me TRN at a $2.5Bln market cap is almost 3x the size of GBX. TRN is a bit more diversified w/ their 5 Business segments.
