Respond to of 456186 Trump fundamentally transformed American elections Don Surber Sunday, October 28, 2018 donsurber.blogspot.com "Yes" is the short answer to the question at Real Clear Politics, "Is Trump Transforming Midterms With Arena-Size Rallies?" The longer answer is that this is part of Trump's fundamental transformation of America. He is the reform. Adele Malpass of Real Clear Politics noticed that President Trump in the midterms is using his 2016 tactics of making news and holding rallies to campaign for Republicans."While it’s common for presidents to campaign during midterms, arena-size crowds at rallies all over the country is a new phenomenon, and these events have proven to be a powerful way to communicate with, and excite, base voters," she wrote . And she noticed his rallies are bigger than Obama's. "A quick comparison reveals Trump’s appearances have generated much larger crowds than those of prominent Democrats. In Nevada last weekend, the president hit the campaign trail with a rally in Elko County, which drew 8,500," she wrote. "Meanwhile, former Vice President Joe Biden campaigned for Democratic Senate candidate Jackie Rosen in Las Vegas -- before an audience of about 500. Former President Obama was also recently in the state, but only 2,000 people attended his event in the University of Nevada-Las Vegas’s 18,000-seat arena. On Monday, Trump held a rally in Houston where 100,000 people requested tickets even though the Toyota Center there can accommodate just 18,000." Obama drew 2,000 to an 18,000-seat arena while Trump drew 100,000. This reflects the communications skills of each man.Despite being 15 years younger than President Trump, Obama is an old-fashioned politician who reads from a teleprompter lines approved by a focus group. He comes off evasive and less than candid . President Trump is free-wheeling and unscripted. He comes off as honest and sincere.Reporters have for years complained about how artificial and predictable politicians are. President Trump reformed that. He gave journalists the candor they said they wanted. His ability to draw crowds means he does not need to saturate the airwaves with ads. He owns the news, cycle by cycle. That means he does not need to whore himself out to the money men. It's called earned airtime for a reason. Hillary spent twice as much and got 10 fewer states. She was the first billion-dollar candidate. Hers was the biggest shellacking of a Democrat since Dukakis. Incompetent does not begin to describe this feat. But a media that says it wants big money out of politics gave her a pass on her big donors -- a pass worthy of a Comey-run FBI.Two years ago, Tom Brokaw and others in the media mocked Donald Trump's rallies. "Well, what we're seeing is Donald Trump, the one that we've known in New York for a long time. His ego overrides everything else, including judgment," Brokaw said two days before the election . "He has mistaken those big crowds that he gets, as he got again last night, 10-15-25,000 people for how you run a general election. And he thinks by showing up, he's going to get people who are going to show up there at his rally, but it's 25,000, it's not two million that he needs in every state. He is mistaken about what it takes to win." Actually, an additional 25,000 votes in each state flipped Michigan and Wisconsin. But Brokaw's ego overrode his judgment. He bet against The Donald. Never bet against The Donald. Now two years later, the media still questions the value of the big rallies. "The big question, however, is whether Trump’s supporters will turn out on Nov. 6, because it’s one thing to go to an energy-filled rally, another to find time on Election Day to go a polling place and put an X beside a candidate that isn’t nearly as motivational as the president," Malpass wrote.Excuse me but people who wait up to 29 hours to see a candidate are going to go to the polls. Trump's rallies end with the Rolling Stones playing "You Can't Always Get What You Want."But if you try sometime You'll find You get what you need President Trump is reforming elections because wresting elections from the powerful is basic to making America great again. A constitutional republic requires not only the checks and balances among its three branches of government but it also requires fair elections. Brokaw and the rest of the elitists like to look down on President Trump as an impulsive and unstable man. But if they were as intelligent as they think they are, they would realize by now just how wrong they are. Oh well, we will just have to teach them the lesson again on November 6.
