However, I believe that the real growth in size will be in multi-media DBMS. The storage of pictures, sound, ... will really grow the size (but not necessarily the number of rows) greatly. I really doubt that database engines will directly be able to handle multi-media effectively. Instead it makes much more sense for a database engine to defer the storage and retrieval of multi-media to specific subsystems. I have experienced this first hand in several interactive television trials. The objective I would strive for is multi-media integration rather than inclusion. syborg
