Could you get a job in the US that offers health care? That's where most people get theirs.....

I'm self employed, but lucky enough to piggyback on my wife's plan.

Yeah, its crazy expensive presently. Some is because the pool of consumers for these plans is less healthier than average. Also due to necessary coverages provided. But it does becomes a challenge as one ages regardless of health condition - how do you retire early and obtain insurance at an affordable price until you hit Medicare age?

I will also note if you don't have insurance and require services, you will pay significantly more (limited negotiating power).
