twister:

By the same logic then, the same can be said about every successful company there is (e.g. MSFT, INTC, IBM, HWP, etc.). However I do agree with you on the concept of looking at what can possibly go wrong rather than those that can go right!

For now I am a bit worried about all these con-artists upgrading the stock. To me this indicates there must be something wrong and SUNW perhaps after reaching another 10% gain or so will go back down. I wished these con-artists (i.e analysts) would leave SUNW alone. But then I guess we would never know when the short term near top is reached!

Addi Jamshidi

Go back in history and read about how Akers, Olsen, Sculley and McCracken were literally worshipped, by journalists, shareholders, and cheerleaders on bulletin boards. Then tell me this time it is different.

This isn't about Sun worship, it's about not being a Microsoft worshiper and waking up to the fact that Solaris did not just fall off the back of a turnip truck. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of Microsoft's foray into distributed, secure, computing. Microsoft has bet the farm on Windows DCOM and OLE because they cobbled it together in their own backyard; not for any technical reason. That technology is so tragic it defies description. It is the height of bad design and poor implementation. It is truly laughable. It is the stuff nightmares are made of. Did I mention laughable? Watch CORBA and Java take off this year.

Twister, you ask us to tell you this time is different. I most certainly agree with you that it is NOT going to be different. But "time" is the operative word. There will be a time to sell SUNW. But not when gross margins are rising. Not when MSFT is obliged to sit in court every day and get its bottom spanked (for reasons that are probably passe). Not when the "story" of SUNW, the gospel of it if you will, has yet to reach the masses. Not when Wall Street remains very fickle to the probability of continued success. This stock is still way undervalued compared to where "worship" will take it and then will be the time to sell it. Meanwhile, you admit that HWP and DEC can't execute but assure us that this will change at some magical moment. You may indeed be Cassandra but this opera is only in the first act.
