Steve, I must say that you are one of the kindest personalities in the biz, and I certainly don't deserve your kind comments.

Jon, we are all *mini-Geckos*. : )

Steve, as you're using now IBM like me, I would ask you some q V

here in Spain IBM has a lot of "SLIP" access-points (not ppp), and it's hard to sit in a hotel-room, calling for pure gold, and then (in my case) to Madrid (from Canarias) cause there IBM has PPP.

OK, I tried to learn something about this (as usual with very small success). I loaded a "SLIP"-driver down (IBM recommended a download from MS!!!) and "installed" him. It was just a ".exe" to expand. No clue where this driver is sleeping now, however, not in "network" as TCP/IP is. Now, when I log into a SLIP-point, a terminal-window appears (nothing in) for a second, then it disappears and I have my connection - at proud 14.400 Baud, you don't believe it...

There must be a way to write "scripts", but I assume that this IBM-dialer produce a "script" automatically, cause somewhere my ID and password should come over. However, I cannot find this script, and I cannot install a MS-script-generator, cause I'm not able to load from a Win95-CD.

Do you know something? I'm sure you do. I'm paying a lot (also just in this moment) for phone while I enter the www in Madrid...

Another point: It seems as I cannot access SI via SLIP. I remember to have read something about that SI can be accessed only by PPP.

We need more pain... Last not least is IBM "ruling". They like rules. One of these rules is that I cannot access Global Net just for 1 (one) month in a certain country - after this time I shall clear a new contract with the LOCAL IBM-net-provider. I hope this will not happen, that I try to login and am barred.

Such is life. I remember with tears in my eyes my German-situation with ISDN and MSN - "different" is really not enough to describe these two worlds.

'bout stocks: I sold today 40 dell-options dlqar for 2 5/8, about 50% loss. This was my most painful option-trade so far, cause I lost several times (as I wrote at this time). The hardest was not to sell at 9(!!!) cause I was not allowed to sell out of tax-considerations. If you want, you can multiply 7 1/2 to 4000, I don't like it.

However, viewed from begin of the week it had could run worse.

Kristin and me have a HUGE cold, I hope we'll survive. Best wishes to all, and sorry that I can come in seldom at this time. It's just technically....

Steve et al -- Alas, it's time for me to go away for awhile.
Unlike IT, I have not achieved independent subsistence, and
tax season is upon me. Therefore, I will not be posting, except
when time is available for the next three months. However, I'll
be with you all in spirit!

A Proud Fellow Dude
