BLUE BELL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--January 20, 1998--

Technology will Be Showcased At NAB '98 Las Vegas Convention

Acrodyne Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: ACRO.O) has been awarded a
contract to manufacture and install an Adjacent Channel Technology
(ACT(TM)) transmitter at KBLR-TV in Las Vegas, NV.
Acrodyne's ACT(TM) transmitter enables KBLR to operate two
channels, NTSC channel 39 and DTV channel 38, through a single
transmitter, transmission line and antenna. Adjacent Channel
Technology, developed by Acrodyne engineers in 1997, makes use of the
superior bandwidth of the Diacrode(R) high power amplifier tube used
exclusively in the U.S. by Acrodyne in its UHF transmitters designed
for 30kW and higher.
KBLR is presently one of over 300 full service television
broadcasters faced with adjacent channel allocations. Acrodyne's
ACT(TM) transmitter can save the broadcast industry millions of
dollars by eliminating the need to duplicate transmitter systems for
those with either upper or lower DTV adjacent channel assignments.
The contact, valued at approximately $800,000, includes
transmitter, dual channel antenna, and transmission line. Scott
Gentry, KBLR-TV General Partner and General Manager, said of the
purchase, "We looked at all of our options. This is cutting edge
technology and we are excited about being a part of it. This is a
win-win situation for everybody."
The new ACT transmitter system is scheduled for turn-on by the
opening of the National Association of Broadcasters Convention to be
held in Las Vegas, April 6 through 9, 1998.
Acrodyne Industries, Inc., the operating subsidiary of Acrodyne
Communications, Inc., is an established and respected manufacturer of
television broadcast equipment. In business over 25 years, the Company
has developed the leading position as a technologically advanced, high
quality low cost producer of transmitters and translators used by
television stations to broadcast and retransmit over-the-air signals.
