my family is directly from Europe, they were Flemish that came over in the 1700's, my great grandmother crossed Canada in a covered wagon some time in the 1800's to settle in Alberta near Morinville, they were lucky during the flu pandemic, while other families lost members and some families were wiped out none in my family died, Granddad had a still and everyone had a little nip every day don't know if that was the reason no one got sick but it didn't hurt.
