The best meals I ever had was 1989 when my three friends / partners and I were essentially stranded w/ few cash in a little Philippine’s town where the infrastructure for credit card payment was non-existent. The stranding was due to typhoon and we were on ferry that had to seek shelter.

The stranding lasted 3 days and ...

We shared one hostel room, bunk beds.

The meals were:

Breakfast - garlic toast w/ scrambled eggs

Lunch - grilled squid over garlic rice

Dinner - chicken adobo (stewed chicken, eggs and potato and carrots) over garlic rice

We also had to ration beer. We dialogued and waited.

To this day I specify chicken adobo as special treat for self
