Langis was, and probably still is, a cobalt and silver project, but the company discovered a kimberlite during summer drilling. It was an unspectacular encounter: One hole yielded just 15 metres of kimberlite, a second managed 14 metres and the third hit 44 metres of kimberlite. The company has wrapped up a ground gravity survey near the discovery, delineating a target about 500 metres long and 230 metres wide. The anomaly is of interest because of its size, but Brixton's appetite is further whetted because the holes that hit kimberlite tested the fringes of the anomaly, allowing for the possibility that substantial kimberlite intersections may result from drilling the core of the big target. The answer may come quickly: Brixton is already drilling a new hole into the heart of the anomaly, and several other drill tests are likely, given the size of the gravity low. Further encouragement for the Langis target came from a 6.45-kilogram batch of the kimberlite recovered this summer, as it produced a single tiny microdiamond. Langis was plenty pleased with its minuscule gem, which it recorded as weighing -- enumerate the string of zeros carefully -- 0.000056 carat. Eagle-eyed diamantaires have since reported the speck of sparkle to be an off-white fragment with no inclusions. (There barely seems room for a noteworthy inclusion.) Some healthy diamond counts from long kimberlite intersections at Langis could get Brixton and the market enthused about diamonds, but until then the company is still treating the project as a metals hunt. In fact, Brixton is planning drilling at its Atlin gold project in northwestern British Columbia and Mr. Thompson and his crew say that they are "looking for partnerships" with senior companies on Langis's non-core assets -- a description that presumably applies to the Langis kimberlite occurrence.
