Perhaps it would have been smarter to ask
Pelosi for a meeting to discuss the issue. Not
an auspicious beginning I would say.

There is an article on The Atlantic that everyone here should read. It is by a political scientist about the changing constituents of GOP and Dems. The gist of it is that Dems have been gaining moderate Republicans in the city who are socially liberal and fiscally conservative (e.g. me) and have been ignoring their working-class constituents. They had previously predicted this trend and had predicted how GOP will have to resort to populist rhetoric to win over the working class in the rural areas.

The bottom line is that whoever wins over the working class will get to rule and that the old guards in both parties have a problem adjusting to their realities.

It's a good read.
