Hillary told the West Coast that she will increase H1B visas and ensure no wage growth or job security for skilled workers. She told Pennsylvania that she will shut down coal factories. And she told everyone else that her policies will ensure whatever is left of the US manufacturing will go abroad.

Trump said the exact opposite of those things and not surprisingly he won.

Importantly, Trump and GOP managed to frame the battle as that between the establishment that is in the pocket of special interests and those who'd oppose the trend (which HRC was going to continue). Now we could argue about the truth in advertising, but that is another debate.

So I don't think anyone should be surprised about the results.

If the Dems want to win, they should learn to make the working class feel that they are in their corner. Politics is the art of taking money from the rich and votes from the poor by promising each protection from the other. Dems have failed on that, partially because they are too scared of being called socialists or lefties.

PS I don't really care what NYT says, but there are several respected researchers, some of whom have talks on the subject in TED who tell you exactly what I said.
