Geron CEO, Ron Eastman, confirmed at the H&Q Biotech
conference that 20/20 is scheduled to do a segment on
Geron. It seemed to me he was confident the segment
would be quite positive.
Giving a preview of the show, Eastman relayed that as
part of preparing the segment Hugh Downs asked Geron to
measure the telomere length of some of his cells and
compare it to the telomere length of his grandson's
cells. The scientists measuring the telomeres, said
Eastman, didn't know which cells belonged to Downs and
which to his grandson. The result: Downs' (older) cells
had much shorter telomeres.
Other media news: Geron's chief scientist, Cal Harley
was on NPR's "Science Friday" this morning and I thought he was
quite informative. Also, I would bet the big news
weeklys will have major coverage of the Science publication
of the telomerase discovery.
