There is no reason why the Dems cannot own 60+% of the population *and* the states. Sticking with healthcare, education, and better income equality will go a long way to fix the problem and is compatible with their roots. The parts Dems have to give up are the more GOP leanings that is best represented by HRC supporters - namely globalization, overt H1B visas, and anti-manufacturing policies...I'd throw in the trigger-happy missile diplomacy in there too, though it is not as big of an issue domestically - it can still lead the party to wage very unpopular wars. There was another great article in the Atlantic on that.

BTW, gerrymandering has an easy fix. The constitution allows the Congress to set the election laws. Get the majority in both houses and pass the law. But I don't think it will happen because neither party really wants gerrymandering to go away. They just don't want it for the other side.

BUT if Dems campaign on an anti-gerrymandering platform, then it will be hard not to pull through when they get the majority.

The (D)'s need to figure out how to get jobs out to the red states. The (R)'s lied about bringing coal back, getting factories back, etc., and the (D)'s were basically just 'Move to where the jobs are.'. That's impossible when you have no money because you don't have a job.

If they incentivized corporations to have jobs that can be done remotely done in red states with no jobs it might help. They might have to provide computers and training as well. Maybe PAY people to relocate to areas with jobs?
