I voted for McGovern and was upset but not surprised when Nixon crushed him.
But, Democrats were badly split over a bunch of things, including the Vietnam War
and his initial selection of Tom Eagleton for VP was a huge mistake. Eagleton not
only had serious, ongoing bouts of depression, he had a severe drinking problem. Showed really bad judgment on McGovern's part.
Still... I miss Bobby Kennedy and George McGovern to this day. Think how the country
would have been different had Kennedy lived and McGovern been successful.
