The key will be in watching to see if the out-of-phase movement of the solar dynamos bear out.. In previous minimums, they generally travel in sympathetic directions.. It's the out of phase separation that is new to solar observations..

As a post for bookmarking, here's Dr. Zharkova's solar activity chart. Her mathematical model, based on physical laws not computer modelling and/or averaging methods, shows over 93% accuracy. Of 150 projections for the current solar cycle 24, only 2 were correct that it would be a weaker cycle than cycle 23. Zharkova's was the best fit. She also has cycle 24 starting earlier than any other projection that I have seen. (but I have not seen them all...I think about 7 or 8 are on this thread in various posts).
