Nonsense:

in principle, opposed to the very things that capitalism legalizes and venerates—most notably, in this context, the selfish pursuit of profit and the right to keep and use the product of one’s effort.

The Apostle Paul supported himself financially with a small business making tents. Jesus himself was in the building trades.

I do NOT want to get in a Biblical debate here - and there was some good stuff in that article, but I have to push back on the following sentence because it is TOTALLY FALSE!
Pope Francis is right about one thing: religion and capitalism are utterly at odds. It’s either-or: faith, altruism, and statism—or reason, egoism, and capitalism.
The Bible (and Jesus) taught capitalism, hard-work, private property and self-sufficiency.

Jesus also taught generosity and helping those IN NEED - but it was supposed to be personal generosity (and considered charity by the recipient) - and not government theft, taking from some and giving to others.
