re: Coal like other poisonous chemicals - needs to be banned

Grid operators can only dispatch wind power when the wind's a'blowin and
that doesn't necessarily correspond to periods of "peak" demand ..

The 7c per kwh you quote for wind "cost" is faceplate not what's actually produced
Hence the need for fossil fueled "back up" generation for renewables

If the Green's hadn't been so rabidly anti nuclear from the mid 70's onward
all those nasty CO2 spewing coal plants you love to rail against never would have
been built in the first place ..

I'm all for utility scale PV and on-shore wind PLUS storage ( see Tesla's project in Australia )
sited where it makes economic sense ( not @ 26X current wholesale prices )

Plus let's phase out the worst of the coal stations and replace them with
GEN III and GEN IV fission reactors specifically the IFR ( to close the fuel cycle )
and MSBRs ( molten salt breeder reactors )

No CO2, passively safe, even Trump could operate one ..

Triff ..

ps .. We should mine coal for it's thorium content rather than burning it to make steam
