<<(2) you lose ten good opportunities while researching a single "past stinker". In this age of excellent science mixed with business, why bother?>>

In my day job (the one that pays the mortgage) I have made a sucessful career out of investing in down and out companies that no one else wanted to look at. In many cases these were manufacturing companies that had suffered from lack of investment or poor management.
Biotechs are different. The assets lie in the skill and knowledge of the key employees and these folks who are in high demand and rarely stay in failing companies. The more I look at down and out biotechs the more I conclude that there is good reason for their failure.
Unfortunately, old habbits are hard to break, especially when they worked in the past. Thus I will probably continue to be attracted to research some down and out names in the hope of finding a bargain.
Thanks for your comments.
