For any given thread, there are numerous subthreads. For example when discussing a particular stock, there may be a set of discussions about its financial report and another about the significant products announced during the analyst call. As it stands, when you want to follow a discussion in tact, you have to keep clicking to the replies link which itself branches out to several subtrees.

And that is just for discussions that remain on-topic within a board. There are plenty of threads that are either pastime or general discussions by design carry several distinct discussion about say which stock to trade/buy. Most of us feel more comfortable to talk with the people we know rather than go find a thread about a little side discussions we want to have.

Having an indented display of discussion threads allows you to read all the relevant discussions in one place and maintain continuity of thought. What's more, since the feature will be new, nothing stops SI to make it an option in the settings whether or not batch reading is presented in a threaded format or not.
