ENI, a division of Astec America, Inc., signed a contract to provide its entire range of plasma power sources and instrumentation to a "leading global manufacturer of semiconductor equipment" for the next three years in a deal valued at $85 million. The company views this contract as fortifying its position in power systems for thin-film processing. The equipment manufacturer, said to have been part of the etch marketplace for more than 15 years, has been a long-term customer of ENI and this agreement represents a continuation of this partnership. ENI manufactures radio frequency (RF) and DC high-power conversion products and instrumentation for semiconductor, industrial, medical and research applications. Radio frequency power sources are used primarily in etch and chemical vapor deposition applications, while DC power sources, a market ENI recently entered, is most often applied in the sputtering of conductors.
