Omnitel Pronto Italia SpA Reports 2.5M Subsribers

PHILADELPHIA -- Italy's Omnitel Pronto Italia SpA reported it now has 2.5 million subcribers after its first two years of service.

In a press release Friday, the wireless-communications concern said it said ended 1996 with 713,000 subscribers, and recorded a growth rate of 250% in 1997.

Omnitel Pronto Italia is a consortium led by Olivetti SpA. Bell Atlantic Corp (BEL), AirTouch Communications Inc. (ATI) and Germany's Mannesmann AG (G.MMW) are also partners in Omnitel.
