trump wants navarro to 'own' the deal, so that he can disowned it,

No chance of him disowning it now. Too late. Trump gets credit for it unless the world goes to Hell in a

hand-basket, in which case

--- "Mueller caused this"
--- "Hillary caused this"
---"It's everyone else's fault, I brought you $1T ...er.... I mean $2T dollars in tariffs and 3T jobs" etc etc.

I have yet to see him take responsibility for anything remotely negative. Since many people adore him, perhaps hubris is the new national position.

I am more optimistic than you simply because (a) he wants to be seen as successful (whatever that means) and (b) he desperately wants to be re-elected. But I may be wrong.

For probability numbers we would need a space to operate in, and there is no data. People do put odds, based on psychology, information, beliefs ..... and how can one quarrel with that? But probability needs more.

They, however, can be right in their assessments.

This may be a small point, but it may also be a telling one.

In a meeting with the press club (in late October, I think) Kudlow informed the reporters that China simply had not responded (as in "replied") to anything from the U.S. He seemed astounded by this, and said "nothing, nada, we have heard nothing from them."

(Well, my guess is that China did not know what to say and whom to say it to, since they were dealing with a diverse bunch of nut jobs with seemingly reasonable requests from an economic point of view, but with zero poise and even less tact. Further, the nut jobs seemed to change their minds willy-nilly and have potentially destructive and extreme demands.)

The US chumps are accustomed to people (esp. people in all of Asia, perhaps) jumping every time they ask them to jump. Hence the surprise in Kudlow's voice.

Again, little noticed is the fact that it was DJT who dialed Xi on November 1. While this fact was never made public, it shows you who really wanted something. Whether this was to create some spin for Nov 6 or for genuine reasons is anybody's guess, but nevertheless, DJT had to swallow hard and make a call. I doubt this is the "usual" mode of operation for the U.S. Now contrast that with all the bombastic trade statements coming out of this person recently. That dissonace paints a picture: the side that wants to talk more is the side that wants more, and the "wanting more" always puts you in a losing position.

I suspect you are a bit disappointed re asset pricing, given the latest (though meager) news from Argentina.

(We won't cry for you, Argentina.)

I did not know what was going to happen, but I had read this piece by Anatole and was convinced that he had nailed Trump's psychology.

"Shout loudly and carry a white flag" just about sums it up. Well, what did we get? We shall see.

Also, we are now hearing from Cohen about the Trump hotel project in Moscow. I am sure Trump will also want hotels in Beijing and Shanghai, because this Presidential gig (no matter how convincing one may try to make it look) is not going to last forever, and the dynasty needs more and more and more and more and more .......

And one cannot quarrel with China and get hotels in China. Or anyplace else.

I have never liked politicians ...... choose any name you like. The reason is simple. Like people who advertise (and lie without hesitation) to sell things, politicians lie to people, and justify the lies in their own minds. And the people in the West believe them because they have a need to believe. Unlike in Asia and Eastern Europe, where they have not trusted leaders for ages, perhaps with the exception of one or two (Gandhi, for example).

But then, those people have had harder lives.

We can and often do untold damage when we lie "for someone else's good".
