Obama wanted to reset the relations with Iran. Instead, he ended up selling more arms to Saudis than any other President. Naturally, the Iranians did not sense any sincerity in his words when they saw him strengthening their archenemy and placating to that jackass in Israel. The unfortunate thing is that Obama really agreed with Iranians vis-a-vis Saudis. But he was still unable to withstand their lobbies. Ditto regarding Netanyahu.

What a President does and what he wants to do are not always the same thing.
