"Putin has managed to do more than he could have dreamed up with truckloads of cash"

Except the short-term goal of getting sanctions removed. I think it was close to happening, but things blew up too fast. Beyond that, NATO is weaker, EU is weaker, and "The reputational loss is beyond measure".

Well said.

""

I think what has happened so far is beyond anything adversaries could have hoped for. The US has had even a less functional government for the past 2 years than we thought possible. The tax give aways and economic policies will hit us in the next 2 years and will last for a while. The reputational loss is beyond measure. And all US alliances have weakened more than anyone would have expected. And this just to name a few.

So I'd say for a suitcase of money, Putin has managed to do more than he could have dreamed up with truckloads of cash.

If DNC was competent, by now they would have owned the national security and patriotic platforms.

BTW, not sure how much attention it has gotten with the crowd, but as early as 2015 the Russians were approaching Cohen to promote Trump for the presidency. That alone says a lot.

I imagine Putin studied our own political ratfuckers like Roger Stone, Lee Atwater and others, saw what worked and worked well, combined the techniques with modern social media, and set his own minions to work. Trump was a willing accomplice, and perhaps an actual partner.

We don't know what they actually spent. We really have no way of knowing that. We know that they used social media to target individuals with profiles that made them susceptible to certain kinds of slogans and lines. And we know from Trump's computer guy that they were targeting certain purple states (there was an interview with him back in August 2016, I think it was, about what their computer operation was like and I am pretty sure that that information was shared with Russian agents; even if not, they both had access to the Cambridge Analytica information dump). They weren't wasting money and time on blue states or difficult (for them) to reach individuals. Unlike Hillary, who went to Red states in the last few weeks instead of light blue or purple states.
