Gary, what a surprise ... ("rebuilding the backlog"). The translation of this cryptic remark is dilution as a result of the merger. I warned everyone who would listen that this dilution was inevitable.

Unless the old McAfee marketing team can get revved up I will expect relatively lack-luster growth over the next quarter or two. However, the long term prospects for this company remain quite bright.

Regards all,

Paul

You have a point, Gary! NETA is definitely a sick stock right now...

My point was that the cause of NETA's problem doesn't seemed to be due to the "Asian flu." And I did put in the disclaimer that I don't know what's going on either. I go based on what I know of the old MCAF and how Billy Boy was...apparently, my sources tells me that he's still the same "confident" guy that he's always been. There's nothing like a suddenly bad quarter to knock a CEO's ego (like Bill's) a few notches.

I will admit that I did notice some strain coming from the phone lines when he was reassuring the stockholders on 12/1/97 that everything is fine. But I don't know if it was straining from sounding cocky or he's hiding something. (I think he's hiding something.) I have to see his facial expression and posture at the meeting to be sure, of course. And this was 1 1/2 months ago.

Billy Boy is very power-hungry. My experience from past experience tells me that his "superstar" performer on the job today may be his "insufficient performer" a year or two down the line. It's very consistent. That's why I made the comment I made in my post about "not letting it happen."

I don't know about this backlog thing that ML mentioned other than what I saw on the thread, which is very little info to go on. I would like to know where ML got this info on the backlog thing.

The backlog thing MAY BE an ongoing problem that's been around long before the NETG merger thing. (i.e. that SEC report that was posted quite a while back about "increased competition.") I see the merger as an attempt to change the market that they are competiting with. If that's true, I don't see SYMC as the competitor for much longer. I see NETA focusing on bigger companies (like CA) as the real competitor. (Please don't start on the CA thing, Rod. I don't want to get certain people upset on this thread again.)

But as Dennis Miller says, "That's just my opinion. I could be wrong!"

Cheers,
Joanna

(Leaving to the tune "Everybody wants to rule the world.")
