I just read Dine's letter of 1-7-98 on "Gold Eagle":
gold-eagle.com
Pretty scary stuff.
I used to read Prechter back in the eighties. He completely missed
the run-up in the last ten years, but he was just as gloomy, too.
I ask myself this question: If I wanted to sell newsletters, how
could I sell the most ?? Predicting prosperity ot predicting the
end of the world ??
I think these fellows have very valid points and I do think that
when the end comes, it will be very quick and ugly. In 1929,
there weren't 200,000,000 guns in the U.S. and there weren't
organized inner-city gangs, either.
But. I do have a lot of faith in the guys running the monetary
system in the world. I feel they'll find a way to rescue the
Far East.
The elections in the U.S. are approaching. I figure that
people like Steve Forbes will bring the gold-standard issue back
to the table. But, will the press cover that issue ?? Hard to
fit all of that into 10 second sound-bites.
And, how long can Alan Greenspan hold power ?? He's an older
man. Rubin will be next in line, if he chooses to serve.
What happens if Greenspan has another heart attack ??
Hate to think about that.
At any rate, all I know is that nothing makes you more money quicker than a rally in gold stocks. We're so far down now, we have to
bounce a little bit. ......And maybe this is the beginning of
a much bigger intermediate move. Who knows. You just have to be
in gold stocks when they're moving up and out when they're
moving down.
They've moved up very nicely in the last week.
