koan,

We know how to do universal health care. We can always expand medicaid or copy Canada's and the UK's and other western programs. How to do this is no mystery and we would have done it by now except for the fucking Republicans.

What, every other western Democracy can figure it out, but the richest country on earth can't? What are we idiots? Well, yes the Republican party is pretty idiotic.

We can pass it all in 2020 as we will control everything. Easy Peasy.

Getting things done is no problem once you have the power. And the idea.
Right after Obama was elected in 2008 and the Dems had majorities in the the House and Senate, it took quite a while to get the ACA passed. Definitely not easy. And the Dems let the Republicans run away the narrative about healthcare afterwards.

You are right that we should know how to do this. But it won't be easy trying to change our present system. Too many with money with vested interests to make this easy.

It's going to be extremely difficult to pass a number of important bills, especially if we don't get some
kind of campaign finance reform through. It taints many Democrats as well as nearly all Republicans.
But Ocasio-Cortez has done a good job of getting Millennials fired up. I like that. She's got a lot more
of them paying attention, which is better than the alternative.
A lot of the Millennial news sites like her too:

Definitely would be much better off with it now. But the transition is wicked difficult. The health insurance industry is extremely politically potent. The Dems would have to do something near definitive about campaign finance reform and get it validated by the SC. Not easy to see how that gets done.

In addition, the transition from the present employer based system to single payer has not been thought through. So far as I know. I'm assuming the best way is to move Medicare down agewise. And figure out the best way to move the tax basis from work to government. Just to mention this latter in a serious conversation is to turn one's head sideways.
