But on my side, everyone of my clan and most of my friends agree with me it is time to work on the policies AOC is verbalizing. My clan's political experience: Younger daughter has a science background and her mother worked as chief if staff for a legislator almost her entire working career. Her sister is working as a chief of staff for another legislator now. My other daughter's mother was a political king pin for almost her entire adult life, first chairwomen of the state's women's commission, and her husband was speaker of the house. They were a powerful political force in Alaska and part of the "Ad Hoc" Democrats that won the house in the 70's. Both of my daughters cut their teeth on politics. And most of my clan are scientists and lawyers and all of them were Bernie supporters and are progressives. Last night my younger daughter came over and we watched the two clips of AOC I posted. Her comment was" "she is certainly well spoken". I mentioned I post on a liberal Democratic thread and many did not like AOC and her ideas. And I am sorry to say this, but she said:" the moderates who do not want to go forward in the way AOC is talking about just need to get out of the way :)>. <<Why is it you don't think we can get it done when we will control the house, senate and presidency in 2020?? I can't believe you don't see how stupid that is. Aside from the fact that this is 2018 about to be 2019 and a great deal of water will flow under the bridge before November 2020, it is transparently obvious that a good deal of the country is not ready for the change you have in mind. And you cannot make that kind of change legislatively all at once. If you try, you will end with disaster. You and AOC are talking crazy. And if she keeps it up and if she is encouraged by 20-30% of the populace, she will lead the party and the country into disaster. Your experience in Alaska cannot be duplicated in the country at large. Not now or in the immediate future at least. That is my opinion. You need to read Caro's biography of LBJ too. He had to spend years preparing the ground to get Civil Rights laws passed, got them passed, but much of the country still wasn't ready for it and while it was a great achievement and needed to be done, we are still paying a price for the way it was done. Changing the medical system is a different kind of thing, but it does bear some similarity to what really stupid people did in Venezuela, taking over the O&G sector by government fiat and transforming what was once a fairly prosperous S.A. country into a basket case. You cannot legislate cultural change, the US cannot become a Nordic country in a year or two or even a decade for that matter. And you and OC both make the mistake of believing that it can be done, way overestimating what legislation can do.
